DANDAGAON PROJECT ended

Soutien à l'école de DANDAGAON au Népal

Dandagaon is a village located north of Kathmandu. Its inhabitants live poorly from their crops and the breeding of a few animals..

The government school (new building built in 2006 partially funded by a Japanese NGO) understand 6 classes et 2 other parts.

72 students from the village are welcomed there: 16 in kindergarten and 10 To 12 in the 5 other classes. 6 teachers work there: 3 are paid by the government; the others are the responsibility of the school.

From 2004 To 2007, the association helped the public school in the village to improve the conditions of education in order to be able to accommodate a group of 7 children from very poor families.

When wages are paid, there is very little money left for school equipment and operations.
Example of difficulty: the school cannot afford the electricity connection as well as the monthly consumption.

On 2007, the Association provides educational games (puzzles, alphabets and numbers), from teaching materials as well as little furniture (notebooks, crayons, scissors, cardboard sheets, markers and whiteboards), for an amount of 370€, them schooling of 7 children included as well as 2 teacher training days.

Communication with the headteacher and teachers was difficult with very high absenteeism, both for adults and children.

The lack of motivation and involvement of the teaching team unfortunately forced us to end this partnership in 2008.
