Christmas market in JANVRY 91 Schoolchildren of the World Association
This project was born in 2010 of a need of the inhabitants of the village of Kagkot in Nepal.
The objective was to educate all the children of the Barbung Valley in Nepal, which includes 9 fairly remote villages.
Barbung Valley belongs to Dolpa District, remote region located in the center west of Nepal. She is very isolated, away from any passage. She regroup 10 villages in about 50 kms located between 3200m and 4000m altitude. Except Kagkot, all the other villages are located at an altitude above 3800m.
This remote part of Nepal is not part of the tourist trekking regions and the population therefore had no way of obtaining support and help from foreign countries..
The village of Kagkot was chosen because it already had a school of 4 classes and was located at an altitude (3200m) lower than the other villages in the valley; this notably allowed attendance at the “Tenzin Norgay Primary School” for longer during the year (less cold).
To accommodate the children of all the small hamlets and other villages scattered throughout the Barbung Valley, the school had to be enlarged, build a boarding school and then a building for teachers.
The overall project was financially supported by the villages, by Ecoliers du Monde and other associations.
It was piloted locally by Mr Kedar Binod, project coordinator at Dolpo and Principal of Crystal Mountain School in Dho in the Tarap Valley.
Our association supported the construction of the boarding school. Once this building is completed, Ecoliers du Monde has also equipped the boarding school with beds, mattress, duvets… to make it operational. This project spanned from 2010 To 2013 to welcome 76 students including 60 half boarders.
During different stays, the president of the Ecoliers du Monde association, Marc Fouilleul, met the villagers as well as the Nepalese coordinators of the project to take stock of the progress and symbolically hand over the funds.
Today, the school is still operating with more than 70 students and 6 teachers.
About twenty children are accommodated in the boarding school built by Ecoliers du Monde and can thus follow a normal schooling..
