Christmas market in JANVRY 91 Schoolchildren of the World Association
Ecoliers du Monde is carrying out this project with Pramod Khakurel, the president of our partner NGO. The objective is to allow the children of Kaphaldanda and the surrounding area, from socio-economically disadvantaged families to access a better education.
We are proud to explain to you the origin of this very special House which allows children to be welcomed, accommodated, fed, and to be supported to access quality education.
This Children's House is located in the village of Kaphaldanda, Nuwakot district half day trip from Kathmandu Nepal.
Ecoliers du Monde wishes to finance, thanks to your sponsorship or your donations, extension work on the building to accommodate in better conditions 20 additional children by the end 2024.
The Children's House has officially become a reception and accommodation center in rural areas.
14 children are currently attending : 8 internal and 6 external. Among these, 7 are already sponsored by Ecoliers du Monde thanks to godfathers or godmothers.
It remains to find new sponsors for the 7 others, knowing that admission requests for new children are numerous.
Global management of the project is possible for Ecoliers du Monde thanks to collective sponsorships and individual sponsorships.
Since 2022, our association finances all the school fees of the 14 children.
Martine, uA member of the office of the association meets the children and the staff on site.
This is an opportunity to be in contact with each child to discuss and take stock of family conditions and any difficulties at school or social level..
Sabina the referent is present and helps to create the link.
Martine observes a real solidarity between children where older and younger help each other (during meals, studies, school transport…)
The boarding school is finally launched in November 2021, with 6 boarding children and 4 external children who participate in the life of the House during the day, take advantage of tutoring and meals and go home in the evening.
The village government school was rebuilt with Japanese funds and is functioning again, which freed up space in the building.
Three people are hired to take care of the House :
Sita is the cook who provides stewardship and manages the collective kitchen.
Sabina is the referent “studies” with children. She takes care of the homework and ensures their follow-up. She is also the site manager..
Saraswati is the “mom” who takes care of the daily life of the children, especially the little ones.
The Covid period and the successive confinements prevent the regular operation of the school and the establishment of the boarding school.
Despite this, Pramod continues its reflections, meetings with the village committee, with the parents and with the teaching team in order to open the boarding school as soon as possible.
He also ensures the guarding of the building and its maintenance to avoid any damage..
Additional works allow the proper functioning of the toilets and the collection of rainwater by two large tanks.
On 2019, a sum is allocated by Ecoliers du Monde to continue equipping the boarding school and the collective kitchen.
On 2018, Marion, a young volunteer goes on site to facilitate the start of the establishment. She works to set up the furniture and to encourage teachers to arrange the rooms in order to make lessons possible..
The building serves as a public school.
The construction budget for Ecoliers du Monde will ultimately be 40 931 euros dont 30 931 euros financed by Emergency Nepal donations and 10 000 euros on the association's own funds.
As part of the funds raised for Urgence Nepal, the Ecoliers du Monde association has decided to support this project, which will go beyond the reconstruction itself.
Under the supervision of an engineer in charge of the works, the site starts with a large earthwork to create a platform.
Supplying the site is difficult because it is far from a main road and it is necessary to stone the access track to stabilize it.
The chosen technique consists of mounting an L-shaped anti-seismic metal structure on concrete footings.
This structure will serve as the base for the building.
The 1is floor is made of prefabricated modules and the ground floor is consolidated by brick walls with chaining and concrete floor slabs.
Marc, the president of Ecoliers du Monde visited the site several times to check the progress of the work but also to discuss, with Pramod, the future destination of this building intended for underprivileged children.
Pramod, president of our NGO in Nepal, draws our attention to the public school in the village of Kaphaldanda which has become unusable following the earthquakes.
Childcare conditions border on unsanitary.
This government primary school founded in 1961 in the district of Nuwakot hosts about 45 children.
Given the damage suffered by Nepal and the enormous financial needs for this small country, the reconstruction of this school is not a priority for the government.
With Pramod and the village leaders, we try to define the needs and agree on assistance within the framework of the Nepal Emergency fund..
Together we imagine the construction of a structure that could house the classes for the time of the reconstruction of the destroyed school and then which would serve as a boarding school to accommodate children living in the vicinity and in precarious situations..
The main idea is to create a place of eco-responsible quality that children will enjoy integrating and in which they will participate.. (vegetable garden help, work of daily living…)
Thanks to the generosity of donors, the Board of Directors of Ecoliers du Monde decided to grant a first aid of 30 000 euros to start the construction project.
The public authorities have provided teachers with a small building, in very poor condition, almost unsanitary, with sheet metal walls to accommodate the 45 students and teachers.
The size of the building is such that the students cannot stay inside and some classes are held outside under the trees on a simple tarp on the ground.. Classes are impossible to hold during the rainy season.
There is no drinking water, no toilets in the building for children.
As a result, parents no longer send their children to school or move them to schools in other villages, often in private schools with high tuition fees.
The 25 avril 2015, Nepal was hit by a powerful earthquake of force 7.9 which made whole villages disappear and reduced to rubble the homes of thousands of survivors then by a new earthquake of magnitude 7.3 the 12 May.
Pieces of mountains are collapsing, the damage is considerable and this country does not have the means to react quickly without international aid.
The Ecoliers du Monde association is appealing for donations with its operation URGENCE NEPAL and undertakes actions to help the local population.
It is in this context that this great project was born. !
